How to Troubleshoot BMW 7 Series E65 Sound & Navigation, Part 1

Troubleshooting video guide for 2002 to 2009 BMW 7 Series E65 Sound & Navigation audio, navigation, display, and sound system

Common Problems

Navigation unit shows no display in the right corner, but the sound is fine. This is usually an issue with the navigation unit.

Static sounds or no sound at all. This is usually from a Logic 7 amplifier issue.

The display loses station numbers and navigation doesn't work, the door doesn't chime, or no audio. This is usually from an open fiber-optic loop and the audio components must be checked.

Useful Tips

You will follow the same procedure for all components above except for the ASK unit / Single CD player. If this unit is bad, then usually you can see all of the stations at first and then they will disappear when the unit clears it's memory after 15 minutes or so.

On rare occasions, the tuner module located on the driver's side top rear panel will require checking.

If any input/ouput components are malfunctioning, then the fiber-optic loop is open, which causes these issues.

Remember to reconnect the modules after you try the other units.

Some units may require programming.
